Really Works Non Peroxide Tooth Whitening - There are currently two methods of removing stains from teeth - physical and chemical whitening.

Physical whitening involves the use of an abrasive formulation, which while making brushing more effective in terms of stain removal, also increases the risk of damage to the tooth enamel and potentially the inner tooth. Such products can also cause irritation to the gums. At Rapid White, we do not use this approach in our whitening systems. A longer term solution to stained or discoloured teeth is the use of chemical whitening products that contain oxiactive bleaches - the common two being peroxide and chlorine dioxide. In these products the chemical attacks the edge of the stain, breaking it down into smaller pieces so that it becomes easier to remove.

Currently, due to EU legislation, high level peroxide treatments (above 0.1% peroxide) can only be sold or used by dental professionals and are usually quite an expensive option. You might find branded peroxide based products from the USA available on the internet, but you should avoid using these as serious mouth ulcers and other oral problems can result from incorrect use.smiling woman

Concentrations below 0.1% peroxide are not effective at whitening the teeth which is why, for our cost effective home use systems, Rapid White uses a two stage chlorine dioxide based system.

Stage one, the accelerator, is the application of sodium chlorite solution to the teeth. Stage two, the whitening gel, is the activation phase in which a slightly acidic solution is applied. When the sodium chlorite meets the acidic solution the active ingredients then start to break down the stains found on your teeth.

It's important to note that the level of acid used during this process is insufficient to cause any damage to the tooth enamel or gums, providing a safe, gentle method of tooth whitening.

Peroxide Tooth Whitening - Most professional dental tooth whitening treatments are based on peroxide formulations at high concentrations. This is a fast and effective way of removing both staining from the surface of and within the teeth.
