How whitening works

Inspired by dentists, approved by you

The surface of the teeth contains millions of microscopic pores, which, over time are filled up by organic compounds from numerous substances such as drinks and tobacco and cause discolouration of the tooth enamel. There are various ways to whiten teeth. You can use an abrasive whitener when you brush, which can remove stains but can also damage the tooth enamel and cause irritation to the gums. Or you can use a peroxide whitener, but that may cause mouth ulcers and it’s usually only used by dental professionals.

European law means that high-level peroxide treatments (above 0.1% peroxide) can only be sold or used by dental professionals and are usually a relatively expensive option. You might find peroxide-based products from the USA on the internet, but you should avoid using these because they can damage the surface of the tooth (see diagram below) and may cause other oral problems such as serious mouth ulcers.

How whitening works

The best way is the Rapid White way! Rapid White’s non-peroxide whitening system contains stabilized Chlorine Dioxide, also known as Sodium Chlorite (the accelerator). When it’s activated by acid (the whitening gel), Chlorine Dioxide is released, which penetrates the enamel to remove all types of stains (see diagrams, right).

It’s important to note that the acidity level is far too low to cause any damage to tooth enamel. Rapid White provides a safe, gentle method of tooth whitening.
